4 Ways You Can Overcome Your Procrastination

If you are anything like me then you tend to avoid those looming deadlines by doing other miscellaneous things like social media, checking email, surfing blogs, watching videos and scanning forums. You know you should be working, but you just do not feel like doing anything at all.
When you procrastinate, you are really squandering away your free time and putting off important tasks that you should be doing until it’s too late. Then, when it is too late, you are panicked and you are wishing you got started much earlier.
There are many people stuck in this cycle of putting things off, delaying, hiding from work, slacking and facing work only when it is unavoidable and then repeating it all over again. This is a very bad habit and it will eat away at your and prevent you from achieving greater results in your life.
Don’t let procrastination take over your life! If you find yourself in this cycle, you can break the habit and stop the viscous cycle. Here are some steps you can take to overcome your procrastination.
1. Break down the work into bit sized chunks. Sometimes we procrastinate because we find the job overwhelming. Why not break down the job into smaller parts and then just focus on one small part at a time? If you find that you are still procrastinating, then break it down even more. Make the task so simple that you will be thinking, “wow, this is no big deal I can get this done in no time.”
2. Change your environment. It’s amazing how just changing your environment will have such a big impact on your productivity. Look around you, how does your environment make you feel? Lazy, stressed, energized, or tired? If your environment is causing you to procrastinate, how can you change it? There are times when I just need a change of scenery and I will head to my local library and it’s amazing how much I can get done when I do this.
3. Get rid of your pit-stops. If you are finding your procrastinating again, it could be because you are making it too easy to do so. Identify those webpage’s that are taking up too much of your time and put them in a separate folder that is less accessible. Disable your email notifications, shut off your phone and get rid of all the distractions that are around you. You know what your pit-stops are; work at getting rid of all of them.
4. Find a buddy. Having a friend help you and keep you accountable makes this whole process a lot more fun. Your buddy shouldn’t be someone who loves to procrastinate, but someone who has goals and knows how to keep them and see them through. Both of you can keep each other accountable and help each other reach those goals together. You don’t need to have the same goals but you can help each other achieve each others goals. Have regular meetings and give each other advice on how best to keep the procrastination monster at bay.
